Reading

We have started our Unit 8 in Readers Workshop.  We are talking about how readers care about the characters in their books.  Most of the work will be done in:

              * identifying and talking about characters

               *getting to know the characters in the books

             * becoming an expert on a character by rereading,thinking and talking with

                   partner        

Last we will study how characters connect and how they are alike and different.

As your child reads at home, ask about the character.  We are also finding places in the text to support our thoughts and feelings about characters.  Have your child do that for you!!

Math

 We are currently working on money in math.  Please have your child count out money at home.  We have concentrated on the quarter, dime, nickel and penny.  Students need to count on from the greatest amount.  For some students, it is hard starting with the quarter and then counting by 10's and 5's but please do this at home.  Your child will benefit from all your hard work.

We will soon be working on telling time.  We will be working on time to the hour and half hour.  I hope that all the clocks in your home are not digital!!  If you are thinking of buying a watch for your child, please do not purchase a digital watch.  Everyone needs to be able to tell time using the hour hand and the minute hand.

 



 

Science

Our class is working on a living and non-living unit. Please ask your child about the "owl pellets" that we dissected and what was found.  That was a unique and educational experience for everyone--including me!!  If you would like some extra Science practice, please visit:  www.pearsonsuccessnet.com

Social Studies

Next month we will begin an Economic Unit.  Our class will learn about goods and services, products and services.  We will tie in the making of a good to sell at Earth Day on April 18th.
